Familial Matters
An exploration into maternal relationships told through the journey of a mother and child. The characters are animal hybrids, with the cow mask referencing the cuts made by butchers. The work takes inspiration from Francisco Goya’s, ‘Saturn Devouring his son’ and touches on themes of greek mythology with the Cretan Bull and the Minotaur.
The cardboard cow head was frequently broken and fixed through its use in the photoshoots, acting as a vessel to show the passing of time. The ‘replica’ was made to mirror the character in the works in order to develop a sense of familiarity.
